Liturgical Ministry

LITURGICAL MINISTRY

Do you feel you are being called to becoming more involved with your parish?

Ministry is about using the gifts and talents God has given each of us to serve those around us both in our parish and in our community. There are many different areas of ministry at St. Leonard’s Church, such as worship, education, helping the elderly or the poor in your community, serving your parish, and more.

Please prayerfully consider the gift of your time and talents to strengthen not only our parish and community- but God’s Church.

Altar Servers

An Altar Server (acolyte) assists the priests and deacon at the altar at Mass, weddings and funerals during and after the liturgy of the Mass. The duties of an Altar Server include lighting the candles on the altar, carrying them and the Cross in procession and preparing wine and water for the sacrifice of the Mass.

If you would like to be an Altar Server, contact the church office at 740-522-5270.

Lectors

Proclaiming the Word of God is a fundamental part of the Catholic Mass. Lectors share the Word of God with parishioners by reading the Scriptures at Mass and other liturgical celebrations. They may also read the Prayers of the Faithful from the pulpit. The lector is trained on the aspects of reading in church.

If you would like to become a Lector, please contact the church office at 740-522-5270.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers (Eucharistic Ministers) assist the clergy in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass. They may also be commissioned by the Pastor to take Holy Communion to the sick or homebound.

If you would like to become a Eucharistic Minister, please contact the church office at 740-522-5270.

Cantors

A Cantor assists during the Mass, and possibly at funerals or weddings, as a leader of music and sings the Psalms. A cantor needs to have a pleasant singing voice.

If you would like to become a cantor, contact the church office at 740-522-5270.

Sacristan

A Sacristan prepares the worship space for its celebrations of the Mass and makes sure the required elements for the Mass are at the altar and are pristinely clean. This includes candles, linens, oils, and the chalice.

If you would like to become a Sacristan, please contact the church office at 740-522-5270.

Ushers

Ushers (and greeters) assist in the smooth flow of the services by greeting people as they arrive at Mass, and giving them a bulletin, and handling details such as seating people and collecting the offertory. Youth and adults may serve as an usher.

If you would like to become an usher, please contact the church office at 740-522-5270.

Musical Opportunities

The music ministry provides music for liturgical celebrations including weekend Masses, Holy Days, and possibly weddings and funerals. You may share your talent in music opportunities by being a cantor, adult/child choir member, adult/child bell ringer and instrumentalist (strings, woodwind, percussion).

If you would like to be a part of the Music Ministry, please contact the church office at 740-522-5270.
